SYSTEM INFORMATION Updated: 04/04/89 This information file is effective only to the date listed above. Changes to the system are done quite often, so things do change. One of the most common questions asked by new users is how to get more online time. The answer, in most part, is time credits. If you look at your status, you'll see a list of items and numbers in your personal file. Two of these numbers have a direct effect on how much time you will have online for a particular call. One of these numbers is how many time credits you have, and the other is how much maximum online time you have. Max online time tells the system what your time limit is. But this is only true if you have the same amount, or more, of time credits. To get your full, maximum online time, you need at least that many time credits when you call as well. Each time credit is equal to one minute on the system. So if your time credits are less than your maximum online time, then you will only be allowed on for the amount of time credits you have. Another question is how do you get time credits or maximum online time? Maximum online time is usually an automatic system function. You can't change that yourself. Only the sysop or the BBS can change that for you. Time credits are easy to get, however. And there are many ways to get them. To list a few: posting messages, uploading g-files, user robbing, bank interest, insurance companies, and other ways. The maximum amount of time credits you can posess "on-hand" at any one time is 9,500. Everyone has their own bank account. To get to it, along with many of the other utilities listed above, you simply have to enter the online games section. Your bank can contain a total of 32,000 time credits. Storing credits in the bank is a wise idea because they are safe from other users. Credits on-hand are not safe, but you need to keep some on-hand in order to have time online the next time you call. Credits in the bank also gain interest. User robbing is one of the most used features of the system. This is one of the easiest ways of gaining time credits. Simply find someone who has a healthy amount of credits on-hand and then attempt to steal them away from them. Be warned that they can do the same to you. If someone is robbed, they are notified via system mail and it also recorded in a system log in the system files for all users to see. Credits that are robbed can be regained by way of insurance companies. Join a fit company and pay their fees and they will reimburse you for a certain percentage of credits stolen. Some companies are better than others. Anybody can create their own insurance company and have a try at bettering themselves credit-wise. Insurance companies charge a regular percentage fee or a deductable for it's members. The members of the insurance companies pay their fees each time they call. If a member is unable to pay the fee or deductable, their insurance is cancelled. The owner of the company is notified via system mail each time something happens within their company. If you own enough credits, you can send time bombs to other users. These nasty items allow you to decrease the amount of time a user is allowed on the system when they call. Simply specify what percentage of "damage" you wish the bomb to be and then pay the price. When the user logs in, they will receive a note telling them that a time bomb has gone off destroying that percentage of their remaining time online. The user will also be notified via system mail of who sent the bomb. It is also recorded in a system log in the system files. There are many other commands and features in the board. Experiment around a little, and ask other users questions. Most of them will be happy to answer them for you. Once you learn how to control the system, you will learn how to take advantage of the system's offerings and other users. Don't let someone get away with taking advantage of you. Fight back!
